ReThink '23 Keynote Speaker

Pierre Mitchell

Chief Research Officer at Spend Matters

In this session - How people and AI work together to evolve finance and procurement - we'll explore the dynamic relationship between people and AI, and how they can collaborate to revolutionise finance and procurement. Pierre will speak about how to leverage the power of technology to drive better business outcomes. He can also help listeners cut through the noise of varying definitions of AI and discuss what can go wrong if not used wisely. He will discuss how procurement/finance is much more than cutting costs and doing deals; they must now leverage technology to tap into increasingly-digital supply markets to enhance overall enterprise value. He can also incorporate insights from his CPO research, talking through top pain points/priorities and how AI can augment people's efforts.

Pierre leads procurement research and IP development at Spend Matters, and is the chief architect of the firm’s industry leading SolutionMapSM framework. He has 30 years of industry, advisory, and research experience and is a recognised digital procurement transformation expert specialising in advanced supply processes, practices, metrics, and enabling digital tools and services.  Previously, Pierre led procurement research at The Hackett Group, and also coined the term “guided buying” in his role as the industry’s first procurement technology market analyst at AMR Research (now part of Gartner Group).

Guest Speakers

Chris Argent

Founder and Head of Community, GenerationCFO

Chris started out as an accountant and industry CFO before leading finance transformation programmes for household names, and is now focused on educating organisations in the accounting and finance profession in the digital shift. 14 years ago, Chris founded GenerationCFO, a community of accounting and finance professionals, from leading mid-tier to enterprise companies, focused on digital transformation, technological understanding and growth.

In his session The reality of people power in transformation and change Chris will:
  • Discuss the dawn of the digital age and technological breakthroughs made by the likes of OpenAI, highlight the cost benefit of automation and challenge the "AI will replace people" narrative.
  • Share insightful and implementable case studies where AI tools complement human abilities – for example, how AI can take care of repetitive tasks, allowing humans to focus on value-added activities.
  • Forecast how the partnership between technology and humans might evolve in the future, and what finance and procurement will look like in a “new” world in which AI empowers humans, and humans guide AI.

Prof. David Loseby

Advisor, CPO, EIC, Author & Speaker

Professor David Loseby is the author of “Soft Skills for Hard Business”, which defined the fusion of behavioural science and procurement (now known as behavioural procurement). He was previously the Group CPO for Rolls Royce where he implemented a new digital procurement system across all group entities compromising of 50 countries and a group function of circa 1,000 people and achieved a digital adoption rate that has held at over 95%+ since launch several years ago.

In his session - A people-centric approach to delivering digital transformations - David will discuss:

  • The key considerations in any digital transformation journey when balancing the need for both technology and a people-centric approach, in order to continually engage and sustain those involved both directly and indirectly.
  • How, whilst there is no doubt that technology is a key imperative for organisations to gain and maintain competitive advantage, the significant differentiator is the successes achieved through effective adoption (rather than enforced compliance).
  • How this can only be achieved through a people-centric approach that will be unique to each and every organisation.
