Before beginning your "assessment", let's outline the scope of what is being covered in this area. For the purposes of this exercise, we are defining the supplier management process as follows:
The process of building and maintaining a strong supplier base by structuring and streamlining the entire supplier lifecycle - from supplier recruitment, through qualification, on-boarding and performance appraisal.
  • Creation of a quality supplier base across all purchase categories.
  • Management of up-to-date information about all suppliers.
  • Reduction of exposure to supplier risk through consistent qualification and review processes.

  • Minimised administrative time and effort for procurement.

This includes all types of suppliers, such as:
  • Suppliers of direct and indirect goods.
  • Suppliers of ongoing, periodic, and one-time services.
  • High volume / low value and low volume / high value suppliers.
  • Huge global corporations and small local companies.
  • Companies with sophisticated IT capabilities and companies with very little.
  • Local, regional and global suppliers.
